India’s
education system has once again become the center of political discussion after the Congress party launched its nationwide “Students’ Voice” campaign in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Addressing students, youth, and the media, Congress leaders said the campaign aims to highlight the growing problems in the country’s education system, including repeated paper leaks, delayed academic sessions, poor hostel facilities, and the lack of employment opportunities even after completing higher education.
The campaign, which was first initiated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his interaction with students in Kota, has now expanded across the country. According to party leaders, the movement is being organized in 28 cities with the support of the Indian Youth Congress, NSUI, and several other Congress departments.
They believe that students’ concerns are becoming a nationwide voice and that the campaign will help bring those issues directly to the country’s leadership.
Congress Says Education System Is Facing a Serious Crisis
While addressing the gathering in Ranchi, Congress leaders claimed that India’s education system is going through one of its most difficult phases. They argued that students across the country are struggling because of repeated examination problems and uncertainty about their future.
According to the party, many students spend years preparing for competitive examinations, but paper leaks, delayed results, and cancelled exams force them to start over again. They also pointed out that academic sessions often fail to begin on time, affecting students’ careers and increasing stress levels.
The leaders described the current education system as being in a critical condition and said urgent reforms are needed to restore students’ confidence.
Nationwide Campaign Covering 28 Cities
Congress said the “Students’ Voice” campaign is not limited to Ranchi alone. The movement is being carried out simultaneously in 28 cities across India.
The campaign includes several public activities such as:
|

|

According to party leaders, every event is designed to collect feedback from students and present their concerns before the Leader of the Opposition and other senior Congress leaders.
Marathon Organized in Ranchi
As part of the campaign, Congress organized a marathon in Ranchi involving students and young people from different parts of Jharkhand.
Party representatives said the marathon was symbolic, representing the long struggle students face while pursuing education and employment. They added that this was only one event in a larger series of programs that will continue across the state in the coming weeks.
The leaders expressed hope that the campaign would grow into a stronger public movement and encourage meaningful reforms in India’s education system.
Three Major Demands Raised by Congress
During the press interaction, Congress outlined three major demands that form the core of the campaign.
|
Demand |
Details |
|
Investigation into alleged links with paper leak networks |
Congress demanded an investigation into the alleged connection between Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and paper leak cases and called for his resignation. |
|
Stronger examination system |
The party said the current examination system, including the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA), needs significant improvement to prevent future paper leaks. |
|
Academic and Job Calendar |
Congress demanded a fixed national academic calendar and job recruitment calendar to reduce uncertainty and help students plan their careers. |
According to the party, these reforms are necessary to protect students from repeated delays and emotional stress.
Concern Over Student Mental Health
Congress leaders also focused on the mental health challenges faced by students.
They argued that uncertainty surrounding examinations, delayed recruitment processes, and repeated cancellations are increasing pressure on young people. According to the speakers, many students experience severe anxiety while preparing for competitive exams for several years without any guarantee of timely recruitment.
The party claimed that such conditions contribute to rising cases of depression and student suicides, making education reforms an urgent national priority.
They emphasized that providing predictable examination schedules and recruitment timelines would reduce stress and create greater confidence among students.
Claims About School Closures and Student Suicides
During the address, Congress leaders referred to figures they said highlight the seriousness of the situation.
According to the party’s claims:
- Around 25 schools close every day.
- Nearly 24 students die by suicide daily.
The leaders described these numbers as deeply worrying and argued that they reflect larger structural problems within the education sector.
They said every government should treat education as a national priority rather than merely a political issue.
Education Should Be Above Politics, Says Congress
During the interaction, reporters also asked questions about political developments, including election-related announcements made by political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor.
Responding to the question, Congress leaders said elections will continue to take place, but the country’s education system deserves greater attention.
They stated that regardless of who contests elections or forms governments, the focus should remain on protecting students’ future.
According to the party, education reforms should receive support from both ruling and opposition leaders.
Remarks on Paper Leaks Across Different States
Congress leaders said paper leak incidents should not become a political issue limited to one particular state.
They claimed that whenever examination irregularities occur, action should be taken regardless of which political party is in power.
The leaders stated that if paper leaks happen in states governed by Congress, they would also raise their voice against those incidents.
They mentioned states such as:
- Jharkhand
- Rajasthan
- Telangana
- Karnataka
According to Congress, students’ interests should remain the highest priority in every state.
Questions Raised About Competitive Exams in Jharkhand
Journalists also referred to concerns regarding competitive examinations conducted in Jharkhand, including recruitment-related examinations where allegations of irregularities have surfaced in the past.
Congress representatives responded by saying that they oppose paper leaks everywhere and would continue raising the issue irrespective of political considerations.
They maintained that students deserve transparent examinations and fair recruitment processes.
Demand for Better Examination Management
Another important issue discussed during the event was the need to improve India’s examination management system.
Congress leaders argued that repeated paper leaks have weakened public trust in competitive examinations.
According to them, a stronger and more transparent examination mechanism should ensure:
- Secure question paper handling
- Better digital monitoring
- Faster investigation into irregularities
- Timely declaration of examination results
- Fair recruitment without unnecessary delays
The party believes these reforms would help restore confidence among students preparing for national and state-level competitive examinations.
Campaign Aims to Amplify Students’ Voices
Congress leaders repeatedly emphasized that the purpose of the campaign is to listen to students rather than simply deliver political speeches.
They said feedback collected during the campaign will be presented before senior party leadership so that future policy proposals can directly reflect students’ concerns.
According to the organizers, the movement seeks to transform individual student grievances into a nationwide conversation on education reforms.
Cultural Anecdote Shared During the Interaction
Towards the end of the interaction, one of the speakers shared a light-hearted personal memory from childhood.
He recalled that his father never believed in waking him up harshly. Instead of shouting, his father would softly recite a traditional devotional verse praising Lord Ram each morning while walking past his room.
The speaker joked that although he would wake up, greet his father respectfully, and touch his feet, he often went back to sleep immediately afterward.
The story brought a lighter moment to an otherwise serious discussion focused on education, examinations, and the future of students across India.
